Stone's Home Centers
On a January afternoon in 1959, two friends who were hunting in Southwest Georgia conceived the idea of opening a hardware store. Three months later in April of 1959, Jim Stone opened a store on a side street in Bainbridge, GA, primarily to offer paint and household hardware products and the installation of such products. The store was called Munford Do-it-Yourself and had one employee: Jim Stone.
Over the next two decades, Jim Stone opened stores in the following towns in Southwest Georgia and Northwest Florida and the name of the company became Stone’s Home Supply Stores:
Bainbridge, GA 1959 Quincy, FL 1960 Chattahoochee, FL (1962-1969)
Moultrie, GA 1963 Thomasville, GA 1965
Cairo, GA 1967 Tifton, GA (1970-2015)
Havana, FL 1973 Tallahassee, FL (1973-1974) Donalsonville, GA 1977 Perry, FL 2022
During the 1980’s and 1990’s, the company expanded the retail business to include more hardware lines and added building materials to its offerings. In 1986, Jim Stone’s daughter, Laura Bridges joined the company. Three years later, his grandson, Tee Bridges came aboard. Both Laura and Tee still provide the leadership and foundation of family values upon which Jim Stone built the company.
Also during the 1990’s, Stone’s changed its name to Stone’s Home Centers and opened a store in Camilla, GA. Since then, Stone’s Home Centers have added agricultural and animal feed to its product mix and its ninth location was opened in Quitman, GA in 2014.
Thousands of people visit our stores daily…Stone’s Home Center’s mission is “to provide quality hardware and building supply products at competitive prices, to offer prompt, courteous and knowledgeable service and to practice good corporate citizenship.”
Treating people with kindness, courtesy and respect is part of Stone’s culture. Jim Stone believed “business comes where it is invited and stays where it is welcome.” We’ve been doing that for over 60 years…”helping homeowners since 1959”.
