James W. Stone opened the first Stone’s Home Center in April of 1959, at 524 Webster St. in Bainbridge, GA. The business was operated as a retail store selling electrical, plumbing and paint supplies. Through the years this business grew to 9 locations in South Georgia and North Florida, offering complete lines of Hardware and Building Materials.
The First African Baptist Church in Bainbridge, GA is the new owner of Warehouse 7, located on Webster Street next to the church. It had been a warehouse of Stone’s Home Center for over 40 years. With the recent renovations from damages created by Hurricane Michael, Stone’s no longer needed this space. Stone’s contacted the church to see if they would be interested in this adjoining property. Pictured above is Bruce Gadson, Stone’s Warehouse Manager, Jim Belcher, Stone’s Vice President, Deacon Winston Rollins of the First African Baptist Church, Tee Bridges, Chairman and CFO of Stone’s and Reverend Wilson, Pastor of the First African Baptist Church accepting the deed to the property.
